New for Winter 2016, the SPIRE 3.0 is
a revolution in Vest technology for snowmobilers and features the latest in
avalanche airbag technology – Snowpulse 3.0.
The SPIRE is unlike any other Vest on
the market. It’s made of a super
lightwieght material that reduces weight, increases mobililty and makes for a
much cooler experience – temperature wise and otherwise! The SPIRE includes a Protection Airbag System
(the kind that deploys around your neck and chest), meaning that this
lightweight vest can provide Trauma Protection in the event of an avalanche
unlike any other avalanche airbag on the market.
Snowpulse 3.0 Technology
Smarter. Better. The all new 3.0
System. Introducing the new ultralight, ultracompact avalanche airbag system
from Snowpulse. Featuring an intuitive handle with adjustable height, new
user-friendly set-up and the lightest, most compact system ever designed by
In an emergency situation, deployment
of the airbag needs to be fast and intuitive. Studies have shown that in an
extreme situation, many users are over-challenged and do not manage to activate
the airbag. Snowpulse’s new deployment handle is more intuitive to operate and
is also height-¬adjustable to allow it to be adapted to the wearer’s body
height. The deployment handle is now a bright orange color to make it even more
visible. There is no change to the tried-and-tested “T” shape of our
¬deployment handle. The handle can be folded to allow compact storage in the
The Inflation System
The Inflation System 3.0 describes the
component used to deploy the airbag. The system activates the deployment
mechanism which opens the pressure cartridge with a pin and fills the airbag.
The integrated air volume amplifier also sends ambient air to the airbag in
addition to the gas stored in the pressure cartridge. One of Snowpulse’s
objectives for the new development was to bring the air volume amplifier and
deployment mechanism together in a single housing in order to save space and
weight. The inflation system is reliable, low-maintenance and extremely
user-friendly: just screw the cartridge in and you’re ready to go!
The Snowpulse 3.0 is Snowpulse’s
lightest airbag system of all time and weighs less than 1 liter of water. At
less than 1kg, this is the lightest system they have ever developed.
The Removable Airbag System (RAS)
Reliability: Always ready in an
emergency: any condition ready. The avalanche airbag is a piece of safety
equipment that needs to work with 100% certainty and reliability in an
emergency – irrespective of weather, temperature and external pressure. Only
pressure cartridges offer precisely the reliability of a dependable energy
store over a period of years. This technology also guarantees a very high
initial pressure to unfold the airbag reliably even in situations of external
loading. Our focus in the latest development was on making the system even more
user-friendly and further reducing maintenance.

Snowpulse Cylinder 2.0 – FULL ($225.00)
The Snowpulse Series 2.0 Canister is
compatible with all Mammut and Highmark Avalanche Airbags. It is a refillable
canister, filled with dry, compressed air. Cylinders can be refilled at any
authorized refill station, SCUBA or Paintball shop. This canister works with
both Snowpulse 2.0 and Snowpulse 3.0 Inflation systems. Each Canister comes
equipped with a burst disc installed and a 3-pack of extra burst discs, which
will need to be replaced every time you deploy the avalanche airbag. ($200.00)

The Spire LT Snowmobile Vest has the
option for vest armour (chest only). These two inserts easily zip into the vest
when needed. ($50.00)
Snowpulse by Highmark utilizes the Snowpulse Technology from Mammut. In short, this means you get the absolute best technology available in Avalanche Airbags from one of the world’s leaders in Avalanche Safety.
Below are several diagrams depicting the technologies utilized by Snowpulse by Highmark. For more information, it is recommended that you check out the How To Videos.
This means that the user can independently remove the airbag and install it again as required – even in a different backpack. You can therefore fit the Removable Airbag System in different backpacks depending on your chosen application. It also allows you to use the backpack without the airbag for other purposes. The system takes less than five minutes to install and remove.
The Mammut® Protection Airbag System is the newly developed version of the well-known Snowpulse® Lifebag System. The special shape of the airbag and its clever integration in different backpacks are unique features. The shape of the airbag protects the wearer’s head, neck and chest area from mechanical injuries and in the event of an avalanche ensures an optimal position by keeping the wearer’s head and upper body on the surface.
The Protection Airbag can therefore not only help to prevent complete burial, it also offers additional protection from mechanical injuries. In addition to the safety features, we have succeeded in designing a completely “removable” airbag system. This allows the user to swap on system between several backpacks, allowing him or her to always select the most suitable backpack for the relevant application.
The “Head on Top Technology” ensures that in most cases the wearer comes to rest in a seated position with their back facing down the slope and their head on the surface of the snow. This is the ideal position since the respiratory tracts are not covered by snow, thus reducing the risk of suffocation. The background to the “Head on Top Technology” is the special shape and positioning of the airbag. The main buoyancy volume of the airbag is located around and above the wearer’s head.
Around 20% (varies depending on country and season) of deaths in avalanches are caused by trauma.
These are mechanical injuries incurred as the victim is swept along in the avalanche. Trauma occurs with even greater frequency in areas below the tree line. These injuries are often in the head, neck and chest area. It is precisely these very sensitive areas of the body which are protected by the special shape of the airbag.
The effect of the avalanche airbag is based on the principle of inverse segregation. This means that in an equally moving mass of particles the smaller particles gravitate to the bottom while the larger ones rise to the surface. The airbag considerably increases this effect, expanding the wearer’s volume and thus helping to prevent his or her complete burial. It also helps to keep the wearer’s head on the surface of the snow and its bright color makes it faster to locate.
The airbag works by pulling the handle to deploy the pressure cartridge. The gas from the pressure cartridge and the integrated Venturi valve inflate an airbag volume of 150 liters in three seconds.
The functioning of the avalanche airbag is based on the physical principle of “inverse segregation”. This sorting effect means that in an equally moving mass of particles, the smaller particles gravitate to the bottom while the larger ones rise to the surface. The avalanche airbag increases the wearer’s volume, significantly boosting this effect. The avalanche airbag can therefore help to keep the wearer’s body on the surface of the snow and thus prevent complete burial.
The size and bright color of the avalanche airbag assists with rapid location.
